These pictures show the transformation of the first portion of land at Teesworks now that demolition work carried out by Hall Construction is drawing to a close at South Bank.
Planning permission has been granted for a 4.5million sq ft state-of-the-art offshore wind manufacturing zone on the site, which could create 9,000 jobs plus 1,000 in construction. It will also support a 1.3km, £90million quay which will help make the region the UK’s premier offshore wind location.
As part of the works:
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “These photos taken over the last few months show the mammoth task we have had but also the amazing progress we’ve made to be able to get this part of the Teesworks site ready for redevelopment in just a matter of months.
“The South Bank area of Teesworks has really taken off in recent weeks. We’ve announced plans for the new £90m quay and planning permission has been granted for 4.5million sq ft of manufacturing space. We’ve already created 557 jobs on site as part of our demolition work, and these local men and women, from apprentices to former steelworkers, are preparing site for us to be able to create thousands more jobs in the years ahead whilst earning money for their families.
“This is just the start. Progress is being made on other areas of Teesworks and the whole site is becoming a hive of activity. I’ve always promised those former steelworkers that we would make this a site that they and everyone in Redcar could be proud of again, and because of the work we have put in during this most difficult of years, we are seeing that happen.”
